On February 27 this year, the new Le Commandant Charcot set a world record for sailing closer to the South Pole than any ship in history, reaching the extreme latitude of 78°44.3’ South in the icy Ross Sea, which is the closest point by sea to the South Pole.

Launched last year and named after French polar scientist Jean-Baptiste Charcot, the 245-guest polar exploring Le Commandant Charcot is the world’s first hybrid electric polar exploration ship powered by liquified natural gas and as such ranks as one of the greenest expedition vessels in the world. Designed for polar exploration, the powerful, eco-friendly but luxurious ship boasts two restaurants, indoor and outdoor heated pools, spa, gym, sauna, snow room, panoramic lounges and bars, library and a theatre.

Cruise Traveller has released two exclusive, new Antarctica packages offering immersive expeditions to and around Antarctica aboard the new Le Commandant Charcot in February and March, 2023.

Way Way Down South – 28-night package – February 2023 – Savings plus free flights and hotel

The first Antarctic package from Cruise Traveller offers the rare chance to circumnavigate half of Antarctica on a voyage between New Zealand and Argentina, visiting remote parts of the icy continent few travellers see. Zodiac excursions offer the opportunity to spot huge king penguins and elephant seals as well as whales. Hiking, kayaking and daring polar swims are also offered if conditions allow.  After the cruise, guests fly to Santiago for a complimentary night followed by a complimentary flight back to Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne.
