The Mekong Diaries – My An Hung, Vietnam

The local villagers perform a dragon dance for Jahan visitors.

Thursday 12th July 2018 – Day 6 of “Classical Civilizations” cruise aboard ms Jahan

The morning of day 6 was spent in Chau Doc, and the afternoon in the village of My An Hung. We had the pleasure of meeting the Lam family who played some traditional Vietnamese music for us.

We then tried some delicious local fruits – including my favourite – Guava or green mango dipped in chilli salt before heading out for a walk around the village. We learnt how the locals make the muddy water of the Mekong drinkable by swirling a crystal rock into the water that separates the dirt and brings the clean water to the top. Of course, it was still not OK for us to drink, but it certainly looked crystal clear!

At the end of our excursion we were lucky to watch a Dragon Dance performance by the local children. (they were so good!) – what a fantastic day.
