Bits about Broome
Western Australia’s Broome is a unique town that sits as a gateway to our far northwest. You’ll find an eclectic mix of business, people and attractions in this place, and here are five fun facts that you may not know, but will be glad you now do…
ONE: PEARLS A PLENTY
Broome pearls are famous all over the world, and you probably know that. But did you know that the shell of these oysters (the Pinctada maxima) can grow to the size of a dinner plate?
TWO: GONE GONE GUTTERS
Most buildings in Broome don’t have gutters. The rainfall, when it comes, is so heavy that the gutters just can’t handle it. Now that’s a ‘soap & shampoo’ kind of downpour.
THREE: DOLPHIN DELIGHTS
The shores of Roebuck Bay off the township of Broome host a special species of snubfin dolphin that can only be found in these clear blue waters.

FOUR: BEERS, BEERS, BEERS
Matso’s Broome Brewery makes mango, ginger and chilli beers – a must when you need to get your vitamins in an easy to swallow format.
FOUR: STOP RIGHT THERE
In a stroke of town planning genius, Broome has no traffic lights. Peak hour Sydney, eat your heart out!
