We are delighted to introduce Charming Waterways - our new leisurely-paced water-based touring series which is dedicated to offering our guests more opportunities to travel in the Back-Roads style.
In France, we use modern private hotel barges to cruise along the canals of Burgundy and Provence. These custom built, innovatively-designed vessels are comfortable and allow us access to smaller regional waterways, and unspoilt rural scenery.
Elsewhere, the emphasis shifts to enjoying the idyllic waters of southern Europe. Around Croatia we explore some of the lesser known Adriatic islands off the central Dalmatian coast using motorised vessels. In the Aegean, we use motorised yachts to discover the famous Greek Cycladic islands of Santorini and Mykonos, as well as smaller islands in the group where life is more traditional. As we turn our attention to the Mediterranean, we appreciate the sheer beauty of Turkey’s aptly-named Turquoise Coast and sail in gulets – modelled on traditional Turkish vessels.
Importantly, all vessels are exclusively chartered by Back-Roads. Sailings are accompanied by our own tour leaders, as well as trained local captains and crew. Naturally, we retain the Back-Roads spirit with leisurely days, authentic local experiences and cuisines, exclusive shore excursions and small group sizes – a maximum of 16 guests in Croatia, Greece and Turkey; and up to 22 in France. Life on board is casual and social. Public areas are maximised to include deck space for sunbathing, and interior and exterior dining tables. Cabins are well appointed and include private facilities on all vessels.
