Celebrate Christmas in one of Italy’s most extraordinary regions on this seven-day festive journey through the Venetian Lagoon. Combining wintertime Venice with Chioggia and Mazzorbo, the itinerary reveals a quieter and particularly atmospheric side of the lagoon. Seasonal decorations, historic squares, peaceful waterways and the unmistakable charm of Venice create a memorable setting for the Christmas holidays.

Your journey begins in Venice on 22 December. From San Basilio, the ship moves to Riva dei Sette Martiri, providing an excellent base from which to explore the historic lagoon city. Around St Mark’s Square, magnificent St Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and the Campanile recall the splendour of the former Venetian Republic. In December, Venice takes on a distinctive character: festive lights, elegant shop windows and quieter lanes create a wonderful winter atmosphere, while bridges and hidden squares invite leisurely exploration.

On 23 December, the journey continues to Chioggia at the southern edge of the lagoon. This historic fishing town is crossed by canals and shaped by bridges, old buildings and lively squares. You remain here for Christmas Eve and much of Christmas Day, giving you time to experience its authentic maritime character at a relaxed pace. Chioggia’s close connection with the sea and its more local atmosphere make it a particularly appealing place to spend the festive period.

On the afternoon of 25 December, you continue to Mazzorbo. Gardens, vineyards and a peaceful island setting provide a delightful contrast to the larger lagoon towns. A footbridge connects Mazzorbo directly with neighbouring Burano, whose brightly coloured houses create one of the lagoon’s most distinctive sights even in winter.

On Boxing Day, the journey returns to Venice. There is then more time to enjoy the city at your own pace, whether you choose art and architecture, quiet walks along the canals or the atmosphere of its traditional neighbourhoods. Bringing together the splendour of Venice, authentic lagoon communities and peaceful island scenery, this Christmas journey offers a memorable way to celebrate the festive season in northern Italy.
