This Danube cruise takes you through several countries in Central and South-Eastern Europe in twelve days and combines nature experiences with cultural highlights. The starting point is Passau with its baroque old town at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers. The next stop is Bratislava, where the castle towers over the old town. In Hungary and Serbia, Kalocsa, known for its paprika cultivation, Mohács with its historical significance and the spiritual Aljmaš are on the program. Belgrade impresses with the Kalemegdan fortress and its lively city center.
A scenic highlight is the “Iron Gate”, an imposing river strait between high cliffs, followed by Donji Milanovac in Đerdap National Park. Novi Sad with the Petrovaradin fortress and the traditional wine town of Ilok complete the route. In Budapest, the parliament building, the Chain Bridge and the thermal baths dominate the scene. Hainburg with its medieval city fortifications and Vienna, with its imperial heritage, magnificent buildings and coffee house culture, follow upstream.
The UNESCO-protected Wachau shows further highlights with Dürnstein and the blue collegiate church as well as the baroque Melk Abbey. At the end, the ship reaches Passau again. The journey combines impressive landscapes – from the Hungarian plains to the gorges of the Iron Gate – with rich culture and regional traditions along one of Europe’s most important waterways.
