The eight-day trip “Pure culture along the Seine” takes you from Paris to the coasts of Normandy and back to the French capital. The focus is on cultural highlights, architectural masterpieces and places steeped in history that have inspired painters, poets and travelers for centuries.</p
The starting point is Paris, which is considered the epitome of French culture with its world-famous museums, boulevards and promenades along the Seine. In the picturesque La Roche-Guyon, surrounded by rocks and gardens, the imposing castle takes center stage. Rouen, the “city of a hundred church spires”, impresses with its Gothic cathedral, which Claude Monet captured many times on canvas, as well as with its half-timbered houses and memories of Joan of Arc. A short stop in Duclair provides an insight into rural life in Normandy.
Le Havre, UNESCO World Heritage Site, shows a completely different facet of French architecture: the modern architecture of Auguste Perret characterizes the cityscape after the reconstruction. Les Andelys, on the other hand, takes you back to the Middle Ages, where the ruins of Château Gaillard are enthroned high above the Seine. In Vernon, charming alleyways and the old mill building are reminiscent of impressionist painters, while Poissy builds bridges between tradition and modernity with the Notre-Dame church and Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier.
The return to Paris rounds off the trip. Here, in the heart of France, all aspects of culture come together: from medieval architecture and the legacy of the Impressionists to contemporary modernism. A multifaceted arc of European cultural history unfolds along the Seine, making this river cruise an intense cultural experience.</p
