The serenity of the Moselle region is a delight at any time of year, lending the advent season here a compellingly local feel. Explore small towns brimming with charm, medieval castles, colorfully painted half-timbers, and winter festivities—and if the weather is right, you may just be lucky enough to see those colorful homes and Christmas lights pop under a blanket of white snow. At either end of this journey, bigger cities offer a dynamic study in contrasts. The distinctly 21st-century city of Düsseldorf and the ancient Roman city of Trier bookend the series of quiet, medieval villages you’ll visit in between.

Day 1 – Trier (Embark)
Arrive at Luxembourg Airport. If you have arranged a Uniworld arrival transfer, you will be greeted by a Uniworld representative and transferred to the ship.

Day 2 – Trier (Luxembourg)
To take a walk through Trier is to feel the long arch of history. Walk amidst the remnants of Roman presence on the Moselle—from the great “black gate” known as Porta Nigra to the ancient baths.
* This evening, a special Captain’s Welcome Reception and Dinner will be prepared for you.

Day 3 – Bernkastel
As if frozen in time, Bernkastel is replete with perfectly preserved half-timbered houses and a quiet, unhurried atmosphere. The glow emanating from the windows of local homes and the scent of mulled wine on the air bring a romantic warmth to even the chilliest winter days.

Day 4 – Bernkastel, Cochem
Discover a postcard waiting to happen in Cochem, where pastel-hued buildings reflect off the waterfront under the watchful gaze of a medieval castle on the hill. During the holiday season, a layer of fog or even a light dusting of snow brings striking dimension to this picture.

Day 5 – Cochem, Winningen
An overnight dock in Cochem gives you more time to explore this charming town at your leisure—an excellent opportunity to see the local Christmas market.

Day 6 – Koblenz
The Rhine and Moselle rivers meet to form the “German Corner” at Koblenz, a gorgeous landscape of wide riverscapes and lush hills that is particularly arresting in the winter.

Day 7 – Düsseldorf
A cosmopolitan hub of fashion, art, and industry, Düsseldorf brings a tantalizingly urban contrast to the medieval atmosphere that dominates the Rhine River—though don’t worry, the city maintains its historic core at the Alstadt or “Old Town,” which comes brilliantly alive during advent season.
* This evening, a special Captain’s Farewell Reception and Dinner will be prepared for you.

Day 8 – Düsseldorf (Disembark)
Disembark the ship. If you have arranged a Uniworld departure transfer, you will be transferred to Düsseldorf Airport for your flight home.

Meet the S.S. Clara, an elegant new river ship named for Clara Peeters, one of the most influential artists of the Dutch Golden Age. Her dramatic, painstakingly detailed works, often bursting with bright florals and gilded dinnerware, form a rich source of inspiration for a ship set to sail the Rhine and its tributaries. Guests who book a Grand Suite and the adjoining Deluxe French Balcony next door can see their stateroom transformed into an incredibly spacious 2-bedroom suite.
