Day 1: Arrive Guwhati – Welcome onboard
Arrive in Guwahati by 1100 hrs, where our MV Mahabaahu team warmly welcomes you. Visit the sacred Kamakhya Temple, the revered home of the Goddess of Desire, before boarding your
elegant river cruise.

Settle into your cabin and enjoy a delightful lunch on board as we sail past the historic Saraighat Bridge and serene Peacock Island, framed by Guwahati’s rolling hills.

As the sun sets, gather on the Sun Deck for a refreshing sundowner toast to the majestic Brahmaputra, keeping an eye out for graceful Gangetic dolphins.

Later, attend a brief orientation and safety session over fragrant Assam tea before indulging in a Chef’s Welcome Dinner at our signature restaurant Mungri Mungram.

Day 2: Sailing into Stillness: Life Along the River
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as the day begins with an insightful talk on Kamakhya Temple and an
introduction to the Bangla Village.

Step ashore to meet the warm, resilient villagers who live in harmony with the Brahmaputra -farming and fishing on fertile sandbars shaped by the river’s moods. Experience their simple, self-sufficient lifestyle and discover how the ebb and flow of the river defines their world.

Return to the ship for lunch and relaxation – unwind with a book, a dip in the pool, or pamper yourself with a steam, sauna, or Ayurvedic massage.

As evening falls, gather for ‘chai and pakoras’ while listening to a fascinating talk on Assam’s culture, the power of the Brahmaputra, and its famous treasures – Tea, Silk, and Jute.

Day 3: Into the Wild: Kaziranga Jeep Safari
Begin your morning with Assam tea, yoga, and a relaxed breakfast, followed by an insightful talk on Kaziranga’s rich wildlife and an orientation to the day’s adventure.

Cruise past Singri and Tezpur, under the graceful Kaliabhamura Bridge, and dock at Silghat. After an early lunch, embark on a jeep safari through the Panpur Range of Kaziranga National Park – home to the iconic one-horned rhino, wild buffalo, elephants, and a stunning array of birds.

Return to the ship for an enchanting Bihu folk dance performance, a celebration of Assamese joy and rhythm. Spend the evening unwinding in the lounge before enjoying a leisurely dinner on board. Rest well and prepare for another exciting day on the Brahmaputra!

Day 4: Wild Encounters & Serene Sailing
Begin before dawn with an unforgettable elephant safari (optional) through the misty grasslands of Kaziranga National Park, where rhinos, deer, and wild elephants roam free. After a hearty breakfast at a local resort, continue your wildlife adventure on an open jeep safari, exploring more of this UNESCO World Heritage treasure.

By midday, rejoin the MV Mahabaahu and enjoy a relaxed lunch on board as we sail towards Diphlu. Spend a peaceful afternoon unwinding on the Sun Deck, watching the tranquil beauty of the Brahmaputra River drift by.

Day 5: Weaving Traditions & Riverine Wildlife
As dawn breaks, we sail towards Bishwanath Ghat, a charming riverside village alive with the rhythm of weavers, fishermen, and boat makers. After breakfast and a short orientation, step ashore to explore this vibrant community, where the click of looms and the grace of ancient Ahom-era temples create a timeless charm.

Return to the ship for lunch on board, then set out on an exciting boat safari along the Eastern Range (Agoratoli) of Kaziranga National Park, spotting wildlife from a fresh river perspective.

At sunset, rejoin the ship for a Chef’s cooking demonstration and a relaxed evening as the Brahmaputra glows in twilight hues.

Day 6: The Mishing Way of Life & Assamese Celebration
Begin the day with yoga, breakfast, and a relaxed morning sail along the serene Brahmaputra.
Arrive at the Mishing Village, where homes rise gracefully on bamboo stilts and vibrant looms hum beneath them. Meet the skilled Mishing women weavers, renowned for their bright, intricate textiles – a perfect keepsake of Assam’s artistry.

Return to the ship for lunch and an easy afternoon sail towards Majuli, with a sunset talk introducing Sivasagar, Majuli, and your upcoming tea-estate lunch experience.

As night falls, immerse yourself in an Assamese Theme Evening-local music, dance, and
traditional attire set the stage for a feast of authentic Assamese flavours and joyful celebration.

Day 7: Cultural Soul of Assam: Majuli & Sivasagar
After an early breakfast, set out by tender boats to Majuli Island, the world’s largest inhabited river island and the heart of neo-Vaishnav culture. Witness mesmerizing performances – the soulful Gayan Bayan by monks, graceful Dashavatar dances, and Mukha Bhavana, a vivid retelling of the
Ramayana.

Return to the ship for lunch on board, then sail to Neamati Ghat. Choose to explore the historic Ahom monuments of Sivasagar, or enjoy a peaceful nature walk along the river bund, spotting rural life and nesting birds.

In the evening, gather for the Chef’s ‘Alvida Bhoj’ Farewell Dinner, celebrating the spirit of Assam as the Brahmaputra shimmers under the stars.

Day 8: Tea Estate & Farewell Assam
Start your morning with breakfast on board from 07:00 to 08:30 hrs, followed by deboarding MV Mahabaahu at 09:00 hrs. Take a short drive to a heritage tea estate and immerse yourself in the world of Assam tea: stroll through lush gardens, enjoy a tea talk and tasting session, explore herbal plants, and interact with a family steeped in the tea business for over a century. Birdwatchers will delight in spotting the many species that call the gardens home.

Relish a traditional Assamese lunch before departing for the airport by 11:30 hrs, arriving in time for your 14:00 hrs flight from Jorhat.

Cruise – for an “Experiential Journey” – on the Brahmaputra, one of the greatest rivers of Asia, on board our prestigious river cruise vessel, M.V. Mahabaahu.

The Brahmaputra in Assam spans from 3 to 40 kilometers across (2-25 miles), flowing under the shadows of the eastern Himalayas with mountains reaching a height of over 7400 meters (24,278 feet). The area along the river is a true natural history paradise. Here you find over 850 different species of birds, fresh water dolphins, and four national parks with abundant elephants, single-horned rhinos, and wild buffalo.

Perhaps most fascinating to the visitor, are the over 40 different tribal cultures found in the region. A true opportunity to “Experience the Living Cultures of India” for which Far Horizon India is famous.

Two tenders ferry guests safely to and from the vessel with embarkation and disembarkation supervised by a senior officer. At least one guide escorts all excursions ashore. There is nightly entertainment in the form of local tribal dances or guest lectures held in the theatre. Recreational facilities on board include a swimming pool, sports room, spa, hair salon, sundeck, well stocked library with magazines, internet cafe and various board games.

All cruising takes place between 6am and 6pm to take full advantage of the spectacular scenery.
