First up on our tour of the Caribbean and South America is Grand Turk, capital of the heavenly Turks and Caicos archipelago, then Samaná in the Dominican Republic to swim in refreshing natural water holes. In Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands, visit Soggy Dollar Bar for a Painkiller cocktail, invented here in the ‘70s; in St. John’s, Antigua, hit the beach – there’s one for every day of the year. Discover the French-British heritage of Basseterre, Saint Kitts, before glamorous Gustavia in St. Barts beckons. San Juan, capital of Puerto Rico, brings colorful cobblestone streets, then it’s back to Gustavia for excellent people watching. We’ll head to lively Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe; historic Kingstown on the island of St. Vincent; Scarborough in Tobago, home to the 18th-century Fort King George; and Iles du Salut for Devil’s Island, a fascinating former penal colony. In Brazil, visit Fortaleza, a beach-lover’s dream; the colorful coastal town of Recife; and Maceió, a paradise of natural wonders. We have three nights to explore wonderful Rio de Janeiro before we visit the Coffee Museum in Santos, admire European-style architecture in Montevideo, Uruguay, and enjoy two days in Argentina’s energetic capital Buenos Aires.
