9 Nights from Lyon to Panoramapassage durch Lyons Altstadt, Chalon-sur-Saône, Mâcon, Lyon, Viviers, Arles, Port St. Louis Du Rhône, Avignon and Tournon-sur-Rhône to Lyon.
Day 1: Lyon
What a city! Everyone should see Lyon if they have the opportunity. With its old town – a UNESCO Word Heritage Site – its narrow alleyways, rear courtyards, popular quays and large squares on the Presqu’île, as well as the more than 200 sights that are illuminated after dark, this city takes visitors on an extraordinary journey through different eras and cultures. And right on its doorstep, to the north-west, is Beaujolais.
Day 1: Panoramic passage through Lyon’s old town
The Ijsselmeer is an inland lake that was created by diking the Wadden Sea and the Zuiderzee bay. This is where you’ll find the lovely little town of Hoorn – make sure you explore it during your cruise along the northern Rhine.
Day 2: Chalon-sur-Saône
In Chalon-sur-Saône, millennia-old history meets modern lifestyle and culture. Stroll through the old town, past charming half-timbered facades and right onto the square in front of the Cathédrale Saint-Vincent, which dates back to the eighth century. Then, enjoy a cool glass of local Chardonnay. The city is also known as the birthplace of photography: the Musée Nicéphore Niépce, a photography museum at the Quai des Messageries, is clear evidence of this.
Day 3: Mâcon
Welcome to the French town of Mâcon, the capital of the department of Saône-et-Loire. Mâcon is also the southernmost city in the Burgundy region and the centre of the Mâconnais district. Many guidebooks describe it as the ‘Gateway to Beaujolais’. The friendly, almost Mediterranean character of Mâcon’s inhabitants is underscored by a veritable sea of flowers in the city. You are sure to enjoy your time here.

And right on its doorstep, to the north-west, is Beaujolais.
Day 5: Viviers
This small medieval city in the Ardèche region is absolutely unmissable. It boasts numerous sights and is dotted with well-preserved monuments from bygone ages. Here in the Rhône region, the typical French attitude to life is also very apparent. Watch France’s history come alive in Viviers, and enjoy the diverse range of attractions that the city has to offer.
Day 6: Arles
Arles in southern France is the Provençal city par excellence. This sun-drenched city of terracotta-tiled rooftops occupies a broad bend in the River Rhône. Many of its monuments have named UNESCO World Heritage Sites. What’s more, Arles was once a great Roman port. As if all that weren’t reason enough to visit, the city was also home to Vincent van Gogh for a while. Did you know that?

Day 7: Port St. Louis
Around 40 kilometres south of Arles and some 65 kilometres west of Marseilles is the small port city of Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône. The town is located on the left bank of the Rhône, just a few kilometres from the mouth of the river to the Mediterranean Sea. Here you’ll have the opportunity to become better acquainted with the Camargue and the Rhône. And the view from the Saint Louis tower will confirm just how stunning the Rhône region really is.
Day 8: Avignon
Avignon is one of the most popular ports of call on A-ROSA’s Rhône cruises. It is an imposing, historic city in southern France that was home to several of the Catholic popes at one time. Make sure to visit the unique and unmissable Palais des Papes on an excursion to Avignon’s ancient quarter. The city and the surrounding region have a warm climate thanks to the Mediterranean – which means a pleasant stay for you!
Day 9: Tournon-sur-Rhône
Picturesque Tournon lies on the bank of the Rhône – you will be able to admire it from the river. The Rhône region’s mild climate has allowed Le Jardin d’Eden park in Tournon to really flourish. It is a real oasis of relaxation. For nature lovers, it’s also the perfect place for discovering new plants and trees, and is a must-see attraction. The town, which is near Lyon, also has a lot to offer for culture fans and history buffs.
