6 Night cruise departing from Ho Chi Minh to Da Nang onboard Panorama II. Hotel stay post-cruise in Hoi An.

Cruise in style along Vietnam’s sultry southern coast.

Vietnam is a joy to explore on foot, but small-ship adventure cruising casts this classic Peregrine destination in a whole new light. Embark on a week of leisure and discovery along southern Vietnam’s beautiful blue-sea coast, from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang via Nha Trang, Hoi An and more. Drop anchor in quiet spots along the way and find sun-kissed sand dunes, centuries-old Cham architecture, traditional arts and crafts still thriving, shimmering waters full of coral and tropical fish, and that light, fresh, crunchy Vietnamese cuisine done by those who do it best. This is Peregrine small-ship adventure cruising, South East Asia style.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City
Welcome to Vietnam. Meet your shipmates and leader at the Millenium Boutique Hotel at 2.30pm today, then transfer to your ship, the Panorama II, for boarding. Attend a welcome meeting and safety briefing onboard, then set sail at 5 pm. Enjoy a welcome dinner with fellow travellers and settle in for a night at sea.

Day 2: Phan Tiet
Travel to Tra Cu for a cable car ride to the Linh Son Truong Pagoda. Here you’ll find an impressive reclining Buddha statue. At 49 metres long and 11 metres tall, it’s the largest reclining Buddha in Vietnam. Also make a visit to Fairy Spring, a lovely waterfall amid the sand dunes. Take a stroll along the dunes of Mui Ne, an amazing geological wonder – the kind not usually associated with Vietnam. Sand-sledding is a popular pastime here, but it’s enough to simply gaze and snap photos of this enchanting landscape.

Day 3: Phang Rang to Nha Trang
Travelling by bus, embark on a road trip from Phan Rang to the bustling beachside town of Nha Trang. Pay a visit to the grand Po Klong Garai Cham Towers, an elaborate work of architecture dating back to around 1400 under King Jaya Simhavarman III. Head to Bau Truc, the oldest pottery village in South East Asia, and see some traditional pottery methods at work; this is a great place to buy a unique souvenir. Reboard the Panorama II at Nha Trang, where you’ll stay overnight at port.

Day 4: Nha Trang
Nha Trang has been referred to as the ‘Cannes of the Orient’, thanks to its cosmopolitan seaside atmosphere, but the star of the show is the beach and bay itself. In the morning, your leaders will take you on a walking tour of the town and then the afternoon is yours to explore independently. Sail overnight to Quy Nhon.

Day 5: Quy Nonh
Visit the museum dedicated to Quang Trung, a revered emperor who ruled in the late 1700s and was a forerunner to the Vietnamese nationalist movement. After witnessing a Tay Son martial arts demonstration, visit the nearby Twin Cham Towers, some of the largest towers of their kind in South East Asia. Head to beautiful beaches where fisherman use traditional basket boats, then dine onboard the Panorama II while sailing north.

Day 6: Dao Ly Son Islands
Enjoy a relaxing day of cruising around the Dao Ly Son Island, a location just south of Danang that’s known for garlic production as well as its attractive shoreline. Also visit some mainland coastal beaches today. There will be time for some swimming off the Panorama II, as well as kayaking, snorkelling and stand-up paddleboarding.

Day 7: Hoi An
Disembark after breakfast and transfer to your hotel in Hoi An. Local guides will take you on a walking tour of this Heritage listed city before leaving you to explore on your own. The city was a major trading port with the west from the 17th century onwards, and has a various architectural influences from Europe, China and Vietnam. Today the city is being restored and looks exactly like it did over a century ago. The rest of the day is free for you to do some optional activities or soak up the ambience of the place. You may like to wander Hoi An Market and the street stalls selling paintings, woodwork, ceramics, lanterns and much more. It’s also famous for its talented tailors who can make beautiful items to order within a few hours.

Day 8: Hoi An
Enjoy a free day to further explore Hoi An. Perhaps take a cruise up the Thu Bon River or learn the secrets of cooking delicious Vietnamese dishes. Visit some of the man art galleries or simply wonder around the beautifully restored Chinese shop houses. There’s also the option of cycling around the surrounding countryside, a truly unique way to get off the beaten track and see rural Vietnam up close. Your leader will be able to suggest activities to help you get the most out of your time.

Day 9 Hoi An
Your Vietnam adventure comes to an end after breakfast.

Launched 2004 and fully renovated in 2015, the Panorama II is your home on the seas. All cabins are finished with handsome wood trims and equipped with modern amenities – including air conditioning and mini-fridge – for your comfort. The restaurant area at the lower deck offers the perfect setting for meals, while the upper deck offers dining al fresco, and is a great spot to soak up the sun with a book.

Our name stems from the word ‘Peregrinate’, meaning to migrate, walk or take a pilgrimage – very fitting for our beginnings as a trekking company. Since our inception, we’ve broadened our horizons and now offer small group journeys in over 80 countries across all seven continents, which can be enjoyed by anyone with an enquiring mind who enjoys getting off the beaten track (without forgoing some of the comforts of home).

Introducing a new a style of travel – a premium cruise without the premium crowds. Think less on-board casinos and more island hopping along the Dalmatian Coast, Cyclades port stops for grilled octopus and fresh olives, or dropping anchor for a swim in some secluded Cuban archipelago. This is Peregrine’s small ship adventure cruising. Welcome aboard.

Conventional big ship cruising is all about life on the boat. What to eat, what to do, which show to catch. Adventure cruising is more about the destination: stopping at little islands the big ships can’t reach, exploring local markets and trying fresh produce, learning a place’s history and culture from local guides who know it best.

These journeys are designed to be low impact. That means there’s fewer passengers on-board, less stress on local communities, and each trip is carbon offset through a range of renewable energy projects. And while the big boats moor out at sea and ferry passengers to land by tender, we can sail straight into port. You can hop on or hop off as you like. It’s convenience and comfort, all in one.
