9 Night Cruise sailing from Ushuaia roundtrip aboard Ocean Endeavour. Hotel stay pre-cruise in Ushuaia.
Experience a New Year’s celebration like no other on this 11-day adventure along the Antarctic Peninsula. Fill your days with wildlife encounters: visit penguin rookeries to see Adelie, chinstrap and gentoo penguins; scout for minke, humpback and orca whales from the deck or get a closer look in a Zodiac; and spot seals playing along the shores. After a day of exploration, make the most of the onboard comforts with the ship’s health and wellness services including a heated saltwater pool, sauna and gym. Celebrating 2020 in a way that’s truly memorable, this Antarctica expedition is one for the ages.
Day 1 Ushuaia
Your New Year’s trip starts in Ushuaia. Make your way to your hotel. Arriving earlier? There are plenty of activities to choose from. Tierra del Fuego National Park can be visited on a day trip or if there’s less time, take a walk around town and head to the main street of Avenida San Martin (San Martin Avenue), in downtown Ushuaia, for any last-minute shopping needs. The Museo Maritimo (Maritime Museum), housed in an old prison, sets the scene with its fascinating history or simply enjoy the tantalising flavours of Argentinean cuisine at a local restaurant.
Day 2 Ushuaia
This afternoon you’ll be transferred to the city’s port for boarding the Ocean Endeavour. After meeting your fellow passengers and settling into your cabin, begin the journey through the famed Beagle Channel. Look around at the incredible views as we glimpse our last sight of land and head south towards Antarctica.
Days 3 – 4 Drake Passage
Spend two days travelling across the legendary waters of the Drake Passage, named after the famous English seafarer, Sir Frances Drake. If conditions allow, enjoy the outer deck space for your first sightings of dolphins, whales and orcas as well as seabirds including the iconic albatross. A comprehensive optional lecture program will also get under way, with some fascinating insights into Antarctic history, geology, biology and everything in-between. Today we continue crossing the Drake Passage, scheduled to reach the Antarctic Peninsula by early evening if conditions are favourable. The first sighting of land always brings great excitement on any expedition south.
Days 5 New Year in Antarctica
Your first day of landings on the white continent will be even more memorable as we see in the New Year at the bottom of the world. The ship will be in a celebratory mood tonight. Raise your glass and imbibe with fellow passengers for a New Year’s Eve party to remember.
Days 6 – 8
The Antarctic Peninsula gives access to a high number of wildlife sightings on a mountainous backdrop of ice and water. Zodiac rides allow for a closer encounter with marine life such as whales and seals. Onshore exploration takes you to penguin rookeries with optional activities for the active adventurer – snowshoeing, kayaking and camping overnight (these must be booked before departure). Landing sites will depend on the ship’s location and weather conditions, but a full list of sites can be found at https://www.peregrineadventures.com/en-au/antarctica/landing-sites. Our lecture program from experts in polar wildlife continues during our voyage and throughout the trip the team is on-hand to answer any questions you may have.
Days 9-10 Drake Passage
Leaving Antarctica behind we cruise north to our home port of Ushuaia. Now is the time to reflect on the amazing journey. We are scheduled to reach the waters of the Beagle Channel by the evening, ensuring a restful night’s sleep before the last day of departure. Our last meal together is often a highlight, so live it up and enjoy as you celebrate the trip with your fellow travellers.
Day 11 Ushuaia
After breakfast we disembark the ship as the journey comes to an end.
The Ocean Endeavour is the ideal way to explore the Antarctic in comfort. It also has, on our new voyages starting in 2020, one crew member for every eight travellers. This outstanding crew-to-passenger ratio means a greater personal touch and more time with onboard experts. With contemporary interiors, lounges for learning and reflection, Zodiacs for remote exploration, a wide range of cabin types, a surplus of space and breathtaking 360° views from the flydeck, the Ocean Endeavour is the Antarctic expedition vessel to be on in 2020.

Our name stems from the word ‘Peregrinate’, meaning to migrate, walk or take a pilgrimage – very fitting for our beginnings as a trekking company. Since our inception, we’ve broadened our horizons and now offer small group journeys in over 80 countries across all seven continents, which can be enjoyed by anyone with an enquiring mind who enjoys getting off the beaten track (without forgoing some of the comforts of home).
Introducing a new a style of travel – a premium cruise without the premium crowds. Think less on-board casinos and more island hopping along the Dalmatian Coast, Cyclades port stops for grilled octopus and fresh olives, or dropping anchor for a swim in some secluded Cuban archipelago. This is Peregrine’s small ship adventure cruising. Welcome aboard.
Conventional big ship cruising is all about life on the boat. What to eat, what to do, which show to catch. Adventure cruising is more about the destination: stopping at little islands the big ships can’t reach, exploring local markets and trying fresh produce, learning a place’s history and culture from local guides who know it best.
These journeys are designed to be low impact. That means there’s fewer passengers on-board, less stress on local communities, and each trip is carbon offset through a range of renewable energy projects. And while the big boats moor out at sea and ferry passengers to land by tender, we can sail straight into port. You can hop on or hop off as you like. It’s convenience and comfort, all in one.
