8 Night Cruise sailing from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia aboard Ocean Endeavour. Hotel stay pre-cruise in Buenos Aires.
Brimming with penguins, seals and the largest black-browed albatross colony in the world, the Falkland Islands are nothing short of a remarkable sub-Antarctic destination. Located 490 kilometres east of Patagonia in the South Atlantic Ocean, this much-fought-over territory has been variously settled and claimed by France, Spain, Britain and Argentina, and it’s not hard to see why. En route from Buenos Aires, touch down in the Falklands and discover not only iconic wildlife and birdlife, but also vast swathes of beautiful rolling landscapes, a fascinating naval history and a local culture rich in British charm. Waste no time in experiencing this extraordinary sub-Antarctic zone for yourself.
Day 1 Buenos Aires
Your sub-Antarctic adventure begins in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s vivacious and eye-catching capital city. You can arrive at any time and independently transfer to the group hotel – accommodation is included for the night. After checking in, meet your fellow travellers and be briefed by the expedition team about the journey ahead. If you arrive early into Buenos Aires, there’s plenty to see and do. Perhaps explore the neighbourhood of La Boca, pay your respects to Eva Peron at the famous Recoleta Cemetery or search through the antique markets of San Telmo.
Day 2 Buenos Aires Embarkation Day
This morning is free for you to continue exploring Buenos Aires and pick up any last-minute essentials. In the afternoon, transfer to from the harbour where the Ocean Endeavour, your home for the next 10 or so days, will be waiting. Wave goodbye to this fascinating, lively city – the next few days will be spent following Argentina’s coastline south towards the Falklands. This evening, spend some time getting to know your shipmates over a celebratory dinner and drinks.
Days 3-5 At Sea
One of the major perks of a journey aboard the Ocean Endeavour is its full health and wellness centre, which includes a gym, heated salt-water pool and saunas. Yoga classes are also available to keep you entertained and feeling fresh while at sea. Alternatively, the reading lounges are a great place to pass an afternoon at sea and learn some more about the Falklands, Antarctica and its surrounding areas.
Days 6-8 Falkland Islands
Welcome to the Falklands. We’ll be exploring the two main islands on Zodiac excursions and daily landings. Wildlife sightings around the Falkland Islands will likely include at least three species of penguin and two endemic bird species – Cobb’s wren and the flightless steamer duck. The expedition team will educate you on the local flora and fauna so you will know what you’re looking for. Other potential landing sites include West Point Island, Saunders Island, Sea Lion Island and Bleaker Island. For detailed information on potential landing sites, please see https://www.peregrineadventures.com/en-au/antarctica/landing-sites
There’s also a chance to participate in an optional kayaking adventure (at an additional cost). These trips are taken in small groups and some experience is essential. Beginners interested in kayaking should first take an introductory course prior to the voyage, which includes how to perform a wet exit. We also strongly recommend that regardless of your experience, you take part in some kayaking practice prior to the voyage to ensure that you are comfortable on the water.
Day 9 At Sea
As our explorations of the Falklands draw to a close, we cruise further south toward our final destination: Ushuaia, Argentina. This is a chance to further enjoy the onboard facilities, share photographs with fellow shipmates, or simply enjoy some rest and relaxation. The final dinner together is always a highlight, so live it up and toast what’s been an incredible journey to a unique destination.
Day 10 Ushuaia – Disembarkation Day
Say a final farewell to your fellow travellers as this adventure comes to an end in Ushuaia. The town serves as the gateway to Tierra del Fuego National Park and well worth spending some time exploring if you have the time.
The Ocean Endeavour is the ideal way to explore the Antarctic in comfort. It also has, on our new voyages starting in 2020, one crew member for every eight travellers. This outstanding crew-to-passenger ratio means a greater personal touch and more time with onboard experts. With contemporary interiors, lounges for learning and reflection, Zodiacs for remote exploration, a wide range of cabin types, a surplus of space and breathtaking 360° views from the flydeck, the Ocean Endeavour is the Antarctic expedition vessel to be on in 2020.

Our name stems from the word ‘Peregrinate’, meaning to migrate, walk or take a pilgrimage – very fitting for our beginnings as a trekking company. Since our inception, we’ve broadened our horizons and now offer small group journeys in over 80 countries across all seven continents, which can be enjoyed by anyone with an enquiring mind who enjoys getting off the beaten track (without forgoing some of the comforts of home).
Introducing a new a style of travel – a premium cruise without the premium crowds. Think less on-board casinos and more island hopping along the Dalmatian Coast, Cyclades port stops for grilled octopus and fresh olives, or dropping anchor for a swim in some secluded Cuban archipelago. This is Peregrine’s small ship adventure cruising. Welcome aboard.
Conventional big ship cruising is all about life on the boat. What to eat, what to do, which show to catch. Adventure cruising is more about the destination: stopping at little islands the big ships can’t reach, exploring local markets and trying fresh produce, learning a place’s history and culture from local guides who know it best.
These journeys are designed to be low impact. That means there’s fewer passengers on-board, less stress on local communities, and each trip is carbon offset through a range of renewable energy projects. And while the big boats moor out at sea and ferry passengers to land by tender, we can sail straight into port. You can hop on or hop off as you like. It’s convenience and comfort, all in one.
