Alternatively, opt to explore ancient history at Skara Brae and Skaill House, ahead of a tour of Birsay, the ancient capital of Orkney.
Lying remotely between Orkney and Shetland, Fair Isle offers refreshing walks or visits to the lighthouse and bird observatory. Northbound, we arrive at Unst, to walk the Keen of Hamar nature reserve, home to some of the rarest flowers and plants in Britain.

Scapa Flow Visitor Centre provides a fascinating insight into the role Orkney played during two World Wars whilst Lyness Wartime Trail Walk explores the legacy of that time. Our final island port of call, Stroma, lies in the Pentland Firth and offers tranquil strolls.
