Highlights of this cruise:

Adelaide
Adelaide is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of South Australia, and is the fifth largest city in Australia, with a population of over 1.1 million.

Adelaide was laid out in a square mile grid of wide streets with gracious colonial architecture. It is compact city making it easy walking and surrounded it with 930 hectares of parklands. The pleasant climate is perfect for leisure hours on its beaches, the Torrens River and at sidewalk cafes. It has an active cultural lifestyle with many galleries, museums, churches, sidewalk cafes, cosy pubs and elegant restaurants.

The central markets feature 48 cultures in a unique atmosphere that has survived 125 years. The main shopping precinct is Rundle Mall with department stores, boutiques, speciality shops and malls. Suburban shopping precincts such as King William Road and North Terrace are also popular and fashionable. The 1920s Adelaide railway station is an attractive casino and a historic tram takes visitors out to Glenelg beach with its own lively shops, restaurants and grand hotel. Further afield are the wine regions of the Barossa and Clare Valleys which are great for day trips.

Kangaroo Island
Kangaroo Island is Australia’s third-largest island after Tasmania and Melville Island. It is 112 kilometres (70 mi) southwest of Adelaide at the entrance of Gulf St Vincent, in the state of South Australia. There are four significant settlements on the island, with Kingscote being the biggest.

Visitors to Kangaroo Island will experience an abundance of wildlife, natural scenery and wild beaches. The cliffs and bays can be spectacular, and there are interesting geological formations along the south, the most popular to visit being Admirals Arch and the Remarkable Rocks.

Hobart
Hobart is situated on the island of Tasmania and is the southern most capital city in Australia. Straddling the breathtaking Derwent River, Australia’s deepest harbour, Hobart is one of the most beautiful areas in both Tasmania, with nearby Mount Wellington dominating the city in the background.

The city of Hobart was founded in 1803 and has numerous heritage areas close to the city centre. There are many museums and galleries which provide interesting information on Hobart’s history. Some of the most popular landmarks in the Hobart area include the Tasman Bridge, Government House, the Port Arthur Historic Site, Richmond Bridge – one of the oldest stone bridges in the whole of Australia and Hobart’s St. David’s

Other world-class Hobart attractions include Derwent River, the Cadbury-Schweppes Chocolate Constitution Dock, Old Hobart Town Model Village, Bicentennial Park, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens and Salamanca Market – a lively flea market held in Hobart’s Salamanca district, which attracts more than 10,000 bargain hunters each week.

Hobart regularly features many exciting festivals and events, including the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, a spectacular race which finishes at Hobart’s waterfront at the end of each year in Hobart.

At Aurora Expeditions wilderness is a passion they share with others by taking small groups of like-minded people to some of the most isolated places on our planet. From the polar regions of Antarctica and High Arctic to the wilds of Costa Rica, Scotland, Patagonia and more, Aurora Expeditions aims to create special expedition-style cruises that foster an understanding and appreciation of our natural world.

The Australian-owned adventure company was initially established in the early 1990¹s by adventures Greg Mortimer and Margaret Werner when they began sharing their love of remote places by organising ship-based trips for keen friends and fellow travellers. Their style to push the boundaries¹ has remained unchanged and they are proud of the fact that their spirit of adventure and exploration is as strong as ever. Their adventure activities are proof of this; with many of their voyages offering polar scuba diving, sea kayaking, camping and mountain climbing.

Deeply committed to education and preservation of the environment, Aurora Expeditions were the founding member of both the International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators (IAATO) and the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO). All their voyages have expert expedition staff who will help to unlock the wonders of these special places.
