Regardless of the season, the Highlands and Islands possess a timeless, untainted beauty that intensifies with each passing month. This refreshing cruise of the breathtaking north west coast and Inner Hebrides reveals its brightest autumn gems for the warmth and comfortable ambience of Lord of the Highlands.
From Kyle of Lochalsh, cross the bridge to Skye to explore the moors of the Trotternish Ridge, one of Scotland`s most stunning landscapes, in awe of the sculptural rock formations. A tour of Raasay`s first legal distillery offers a warming dram. No Scottish castle is more photographed than Eilean Donan. Built in the mid-13th century to guard Kintail, it was left in ruins for 200 years and restored by Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap. Set in attractive gardens, Armadale Castle was the seat of Clan Donald, where the Museum of the Isles wonderfully preserves Skye`s heritage. The Small Isle of Eigg is a breathtaking spot for walks far off the beaten track beneath the pitchstone lava plug of An Sgurr. Mull`s colourful Georgian harbour town of Tobermory offers pleasant strolls before you head to the island`s only dairy farm to taste the artisan produce at Isle of Mull Cheese. The ancestral seat of the Macleans for over 400 years, Duart Castle was restored and reopened by Sir Fitzroy Maclean in 1912. Absorb the tranquility of the holy isle of Iona, where St Columba sought refuge from his beloved Ireland. Your final port of call is Oban, the Gateway to the Isles. Explore the bustling waterfront and climb up Battery Hill to be rewarded with panoramic views from the magnificent folly of McCaig`s Tower.
